Episode 18: Natalie Pearmain - A Digital Archivist’s Life at Coca-Cola
In this episode of the Shush-Free Zone, host Dawn Brushammar talks with Natalie Pearmain, Digital Archives Manager at The Coca-Cola Company, about the work of preserving, organizing and making history accessible.
They explore the connection between librarianship and archives, from description, metadata and helping people find what they're looking for to the challenges of digital preservation. Natalie shares what it's like to support a global business with 140 years of history, how the archives help teams in marketing, design and leadership, and why preserving digital content involves a whole lot more than moving files into another folder.
And there are some fantastic stories along the way: Olympic torches, iconic Coca-Cola commercials, a giant mallet used by Paula Abdul to celebrate Diet Coke, and a very important three-year-old's stuffed triceratops. They also get into AI, archival careers, and why hands-on experience matters.
